Richmond Heights

Beautiful homes, high-quality streets, top-notch shopping, outstanding schools and excellent city services and amenities are just a few of the components that place the City of Richmond Heights among the most sought-after places to live in all of St. Louis County.

The City is uniquely located at the confluence of Interstate 64 and Interstate 170 at the heart of the St. Louis metropolitan area. This serendipitous location puts Richmond Heights only minutes away from many regional attractions and features, such as Lambert International Airport, public and private colleges, sports venues, cultural attractions, the best of medical services, and the landmark Forest Park. The MetroLink light rail line provides residents, shoppers, commuters and other visitors with increased transportation options to and from our city via the light rail station located on Galleria Parkway just east of fabulous shopping, dining and entertainment  choices at Saint Louis Galleria and at The Boulevard-Saint Louis.

Richmond Heights is a traditional community that successfully incorporates its identifying tag line “Progress with Tradition” into the reality of daily living. The latter component includes a diverse population of nearly 10,000 people from all walks of life; a wide array of well-maintained and attractive homes in established, desirable neighborhoods; quality public and private schools, and high-quality city services. These characteristics, among others, help make Richmond Heights a perfect place to raise families.

Many of the homes in Richmond Heights feature characteristics associated with the Arts and Crafts period – including hardwood floors, stained glass and leaded windows, high ceilings and unique architectural features. The city’s housing stock includes more contemporary ranch homes, traditional two-story Tudor-style and Georgian-style homes, and a few Mediterranean-styled homes – all balanced with an array of other modestly designed homes that are unique to this area. The city’s housing supply also includes a number of historically significant home and apartments, two assisted living facilities, and one of the nation’s first new mid-rise, loft-style condominium projects. Several new housing developments are in various stages of developments throughout the City. Interested parties will want to keep an eye out for new single-family homes in the Hadley Redevelopment area at the southeast corner of Dale Avenue and Hanley Road, while others will want to watch for new luxury multifamily housing on Eager Road just east of Brentwood Boulevard and south of The New I-64.

Whatever a family or business needs – groceries, clothing, office supplies, plants and flowers, medical services, the latest fashions, gifts, fine chocolates, assorted repair and maintenance services, or antiques – can likely be found in Richmond Heights. An abundance of local shops and businesses of all shapes and sizes provide convenience and service along with a large selection of products. Richmond Heights is home to Saint Louis Galleria – the region’s premier shopping center. Known as the place where “the best stores put their best store,” the Galleria offers a complete dining, entertainment and shopping experience in an unparalleled and secure shopping environment where more than 50 stores unique to the region are located. These include Cartier, Timberland, Arden B., Restoration Hardware, Sammi, Build-A-Bear Workshop, M-A-C, Kenneth Cole New York, and Club Libby Lu. Soon, Nordstrom’s will open its newest store in the St. Louis metro region on the east side of the Galleria near the south end of the mall.

Directly across the street is The Boulevard-Saint Louis – a vibrant urban village with a unique blend of upscale retail, fine dining, and luxury residences. Home to retailers and restaurants such as Soft Surroundings, Ann Taylor Loft, Crate & Barrel, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro and Maggiano’s Little Italy, The Boulevard is the premier lifestyle development in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Take a stroll down main street and enjoy the bubbling fountains, immerse yourself in the European architecture and sit back and relax on the patio of our restaurants. An additional 165,000 square feet of retail, restaurants and a hotel will be added to the site by the end of 2008, which will double the size of the current project.

Quality public and private schools serve the residents of Richmond Heights. The four public school districts are the Brentwood School District, the Clayton School District, the Ladue School District, and the Maplewood-Richmond Heights  School District. Several private schools are also located in the city.

In addition to numerous private practices and medical laboratories, Richmond Heights is home to SSM St. Mary’s Health Center, an affiliate of the SSM Health Care Network. Since 1924, St. Mary’s has demonstrated its commitment to providing quality healthcare for all segments of the greater St. Louis community. The facility is licensed for more than 600 beds, employs about 1,700 people, and has more than 800 physicians representing all medical specialties on staff.

Municipal services provided to Richmond Heights residents by the City are second to none. The Police and Fire Departments provide round-the-clock public safety services; the Public Works Department ensures the best of maintenance and upgrades to the City’s infrastructure, and the Finance Department is an award-winning team of specialists who work closely with the City Manager and her staff to ensure the economic and fiscal viability of the City.

THE HEIGHTS: Richmond Heights Community Center and Memorial Library houses the City’s two strongest value-added service departments – recreation and library services – in a single 73,167 square-foot facility. Recreation opportunities includes sports, fitness equipment, swimming, and recreational, educational and lifestyle enhancing programs. The Parks & Recreation Department also maintains the City’s public spaces, parks, and the city’s multi-million dollar tree inventory – enabling Richmond Heights to be named a “Tree City USA” for more than 10 consecutive years.
